Presented is a complete set of 1935 Goudey consisting of thirty-six different cards. The 1935 Goudey series is one of the company’s most interesting efforts. Each card features four players and the set is highlighted by the legendary Babe Ruth. This was Ruth’s last card as a player. The portrait image of Ruth is a close-up detail from his 1933 Goudey card #181 dugout pose, and because the set was issued in 1935, he is identified on this card as a member of the Boston Braves. Ruth appeared in just twenty-eight games with the Braves in 1935 before retiring as a player. The reverses of these cards feature puzzle pieces, which can be collected and assembled to form a large baseball picture. This is an extremely condition-sensitive gum-card issue. This is a very attractive set that is technically in pleasing low- to mid-grade. We have selected three cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: Adams/Bottomley (Gd), Appling (Ex), Averill (Gd), Ott (VG-EX+ 4.5), Vance (Vg), Cronin (Vg), Herman (Gd), Lyons (Vg-Ex), Bottomley/Comorsky (off register, otherwise Vg), Ruth/Maranville (VG 3), Cochrane/Gehringer (Fr), Waners/Hoyt (Fr), Dean/Frisch (Pr-Fr), Cochrane/Simmons (Fr), Goslin (Vg), Cuyler/Grimes/Klein (Gd), Dickey/Lazzeri/Ruffing (VG-EX 4), Greenberg (Gd), Foxx (Vg-Ex), Manush (Vg), Jackson/Terry (Gd), R. Ferrell (Vg), and Traynor (Fr). The balance of the cards grade seven Vg to Vg-Ex and six Pr to Gd. This is an attractive complete set of this classic Goudey issue, which is highlighted by twenty-three Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth’s last card as a player. Total: 36 cards.
