Presented is a very attractive, yet modestly graded example of legendary Hall of Famer Cy Young in uniform from the very popular W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set. Young is one of the key Hall of Famers from this extremely substantial cabinet-card set, which is one of the highest-quality baseball-card issues ever produced. Three different variations of Young (all in uniform) were issued in W600: one bearing a specific 1902 date on front and Young imaged with a mustache, one with a Boston team designation (1904), and one with a Cleveland team designation (1909). The offered example is the "Boston" team variation issued in 1904. Graded POOR 10 by SGC due to three pinholes in the center of the top, bottom, and right borders, the card is otherwise bright and crisp, with a strong image, outstanding centering, and even wear at the four corners. There is a stain along the right side of the top edge. The blank reverse is mostly clean, with a few ink notations near the top. W600 Sporting Life cabinet cards were available only by mail. Despite these flaws, this remains an extremely impressive example of a very desirable card which would be a worthy addition to any Cy Young, W600, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
