This 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle (card #82) is notable for the vintage Mickey Mantle signature scripted across the front. Ideally, Mantle has signed the card in blue ink (grading "8/9") along his shoulder, thereby allowing for maximum contrast. As most collectors are aware, Mantle's signature style changed over the course of time and his 1950s signature (as seen here) is easily distinguished from later examples Mantle-signed baseball cards, especially those dating from the 1950s, have always been highly prized by autograph collectors. This particular card dates from his third season with the Yankees and is the second Mantle card ever issued by Topps. The card displays a heavy horizontal crease (running across the brim of Mantle's cap), as well as a slightly lesser vertical crease directly above, and is therefore technically in Good condition. However, it still presents well and remains a rare, vintage-signed example dating from Mantle's early career. LOA from James Spence/JSA.   Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
