Postwar Baseball - 1960s Cards
Presented is an extremely sizable original-owner collection of approximately 2,500 Topps cards spanning the years 1964 to 1967, highlighted by dozens of Hall of Famers, including Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and Mickey Mantle, as well as a near-complete set of 1964 Topps Stand-Ups, and a small group of scarce 1965 Topps Push-Pull cards including Mantle/Berra. The 1964 Topps Stand-Ups in particular are remarkably well-preserved, and are of all the more special note as we rarely find these 1960s classics in original-owner collections. (Most 1964 Topps Stand-Ups in the hobby originate from Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards Company when they had groups of 55 different obtained directly from Topps available for sale in the late 1960s and early 1970s). As noted, this collection has been consigned by the original owner, who personally bought these cards as a youngster in their years of issue, and after several great years of enjoyment carefully packed them away in the closet., where they have miraculously remained for the past fifty years! He has decided that now is the time to let them go (in part, because, well, he finally found them in his closet!), and they are presented here exactly as they were put away late in 1967.

Approximately 2,150 of the cards in this collection are from the 1964 and 1965 Topps sets, with smaller samples from 1966 Topps (131) and 1967 Topps (fifty-six), as well as 1964 Topps Stand-Ups (seventy-seven, including seventy-one different), 1965 Topps Embossed (seventy-six), and 1965 Topps Push-Pull (thirteen, including Mantle/Berra). The condition of this collection is relatively modest overall, with the 1964 and 1965 Topps cards grading Pr to Ex (averaging Vg) and the 1966 and 1967 Topps cards averaging Ex. The 1965 Topps Embossed average Vg-Ex and the 1965 Topps Push-Pulls average Vg. The 1964 Topps Stand-Ups near-complete set grades Vg-Ex to Ex overall, with just five lesser. Missing only #26, 29, 47, 55, 64, and 71 for completion. While the cards in this collection are overall low-to mid-grade and will therefore never grade extremely highly if submitted for professional grading, it is an impressive group. There is a special quality to an original-owner collection such as this in "circulated" condition that harkens back to the days where trading cards were simple means of enjoyment for children on a playground. It is clear that these cards were very much enjoyed by their owner, and this extremely substantial collection of cards represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire authentic cards that are starting to have some real age to them (fifty years!) without breaking the bank! The fact that the 1964 Topps Stand-Ups near-set is included, as well as the the 1965 Push-Pull cards, and the collection is totally unpicked, including countless stars, makes this a particularly interesting and appealing "shoebox" collection. Total: approximately 2,500 cards.  Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
