Prewar Baseball - T Tobacco Cards
Presented is a fascinating collection of six cards, three each from the T210 Old Mill Tobacco and T211 Red Sun Cigarettes sets, which offers three matched pairs (cards sharing the same image) from these two rare 1910-era issues. The players presented here are Bay (Nashville), Seitz (Atlanta), and Sid Smith (Atlanta). Both the T210 set, as part of the rare "Series 8," and the T211 set, exclusively feature players from the Southern Association. Interestingly, the three players offered in this collection also appear as part of the "Southern Leaguer" subset within the legendary T206 White Border series issued around the same time. (Bay appears on his T206 in the same pose; Seitz and Smith are posed differently.) This collection consists of the following: Bay (T210: SGC FAIR 20 and T211: SGC VG+ 45), Seitz (T210: SGC GOOD 30 and T211: SGC GOOD 30), and Smith (T210: SGC VG 40 and T211: SGC VG 40). All cards are bright and crisp, with flawless images (only Bay's T210 shows minor creasing on the image). The T210 Old Mill Tobacco card set has always been extremely highly regarded by advanced collectors for its very distinctive design, its scarcity compared to most other tobacco-card sets of the era, and its extremely striking photos. The eighth series, of which the three cards are part, is universally recognized as among the rarest in the T210 set. The T211 Red Sun set has long been considered one of the rarest and (in large part because of its rarity) most overlooked of all tobacco-card issues. The combination of cards from these two issues, ideally in matched pairs, is especially interesting and worthy of any prewar-card collection. Total: 6 cards.  Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
