Collection of sixteen different Hartland football statues produced between the years 1959 and 1963, accompanied by nine original boxes. This outstanding collection was assembled over many years by an extremely advanced and knowledgeable longtime collector (this is the collector we go to with Hartland questions when we have them!). The collection has been assembled with condition in mind, and as such, most of the figures offered here rank among the finest examples we have ever seen let alone handled. Hartland football statues are scarcer than their baseball counterparts and this is one of the largest offerings we have seen at public auction. In 1959, following on the heels of the company's popular baseball issue, Hartland began production of a football set. The first two figures off the assembly line in 1959 were Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas and Los Angeles Rams running back John Arnett. They were followed in subsequent years by generic figures (a running back and a lineman) for each of the then fourteen teams in the NFL, with a total of thirty figures eventually representing a complete set of football Hartlands. Each Hartland football statue was packaged in a box very similar in design to that used for the company's baseball line.

This collection is comprised of sixteen different Hartland football statues, eight of which are accompanied by their original boxes. There is one additional box (San Francisco Lineman) that does not go with any of the statues offered here. It should be noted that each of the generic statues originally came with a decal-transfer sheet containing numbers so that the buyer could decorate it with the number of his favorite player. Eleven of the statues in this collection display an applied number. Neither the original decal-transfer sheet nor the original Hartland product brochure accompanies any of the statues. Four of the statues come with modern replacement face masks (duly noted in the listing).

Statues with Boxes (8): 1) Baltimore lineman: statue Ex-Mt; box (complete with protective cardboard flap covering partially torn cellophane window) Vg, with stain on front. 2) Chicago lineman: statue (missing original face mask) otherwise Ex-Mt; box (complete with protective cardboard flap covering partially torn cellophane window) Ex. 3) San Francisco lineman: statue Ex, with ink marks on back (original face mask is detached, but accompanies statue); box (complete with protective cardboard flap covering intact cellophane window) Nr-Mt. 4) Pittsburgh running back: statue Nr-Mt; box (cellophane torn) Vg-Ex. 5) Philadelphia running back: statue Nr-Mt; box (cellophane missing) Vg. 6) Los Angeles running back: statue Nr-Mt; box (cellophane intact) Nr-Mt. 7) Dallas running back: statue Nr-Mt; box (cellophane torn) Vg-Ex. 8) New York lineman: statue (missing original face mask) otherwise Ex-Mt; box (cellophane torn) Gd-Vg, with paper loss to front cardboard.
