Rare circa 1910s "winged" leather football helmet manufactured by Joseph L. Briggs & Son of Chester, Pennsylvania. This particular Briggs model helmet is believed to be the first football helmet to feature a slanted "wing" design on each side, making it both a rare and highly desirable example dating from the early 1900s. Both the company name and the number "1" are stamped on the front in silver lettering. Complete with its original chin strap. The brown-leather helmet displays wear commensurate with its age and former use, including moderate tears to the interior side padding. A small notation (illegible; possibly initials) is written in marker on one of the top interior straps. In Very Good condition overall.
