REA’s September Event Sets Several Records Led by Rare 1903 Breisch-Williams Plank

PJ Kinsella — September 22 2025

Chester, NJ - September 22, 2025 - REA’s loaded September Auction, which included nearly 4,700 lots, closed Sunday night led by a very rare 1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Eddie Plank SGC VG/EX 4 - the only example of the card graded at this level by SGC with none higher - that sold for $76,875, a record for the card in any grade. This scarce card is several times more rare than the elusive T206 Eddie Plank that features the same image of the Hall of Fame pitcher. It was joined atop the results leaderboard by several iconic rookie cards, notably a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron Rookie PSA NM-MT 8 that sold for $50,430 and a 1948-1949 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson Rookie PSA EX-MT 6 that sold for $49,200, both of which were the highest sales in their respective grade in three years.

A pair of Michael Jordan rookie cards were also among the top sales in the event, specifically a 1984-1985 Star Company Basketball #101 Michael Jordan Rookie PSA EX-MT 6 that sold for $41,820 and a 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie BGS GEM MINT 9.5 that sold for $40,590.

One of the most interesting items in the event was a rare 1954 Topps unopened five-cent wax pack "Dated" variation graded EX-MT 6 by PSA that sold for $39,360.

The auction generated $3.1 million in sales across more than 108,000 bids and was the largest monthly auction since REA introduced the events in 2021.

Some of the other notable results from REA’s September Auction included:

  • 1915 E145 Cracker Jack #88 Christy Mathewson PSA NM 7 - $41,820
  • 1949 Bowman #50 Jackie Robinson PSA NM-MT 8 - $39,360

  • 1970-1971 Topps Basketball #123 Pete Maravich Rookie PSA MINT 9 - $21,525

“It’s always exciting when we’re able to deliver strong results across such a wide array of items,” said Brian Dwyer, President at REA. “We saw several new records set in this auction and that demonstrates the growing appetite for not only the well-known items, but the more esoteric pieces as well, which is a tremendous sign for our industry.“

REA’s next event will be its October Auction, its penultimate event of the year, that will run from October 9-19, followed by the company’s blockbuster Fall Catalog Auction kicking off on November 21.

REA continues to accept consignments for its Fixed Price Marketplace, which now boasts more than 1,700 items ranging from vintage memorabilia to modern cards, both sport and non-sport. If you’re interested in consigning items, send an email to [email protected]
