REA Spring Auction Sets Numerous Records Led By Mantle and Jackie Classics

PJ Kinsella — April 21 2026

Chester, NJ - April 20, 2026 - REA’s Spring Catalog Auction closed Sunday night and set numerous records throughout the event, which included more than 3,200 lots. The results were led by a 1953 Topps #1 Jackie Robinson PSA MINT 9, which sold for an incredible $405,900 and a 1955 Topps #164 Roberto Clemente Rookie PSA NM-MT+ 8.5, which hammered for $270,600, both of which shattered the previous records for the cards in their respective PSA grade. Additionally, a 1952 Topps PSA-graded complete set, which included a Mickey Mantle PSA VG-EX 4, sold for $282,900.

On the modern side, a 2004-2005 Upper Deck SP Signature Triple Authentic Signatures Basketball #AS3-JBJ Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant/LeBron James #12/25 PSA EX 5 sold for $258,300, while a stunning 2018 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions Exquisite Rookie Autograph #09T-SO Shohei Ohtani #2/99 PSA NM 7 with a GEM 10 Kanji signature finished at $239,850, both of which were also records for the card.

Also among the top results was a newly discovered 1922 Olsen Games Co. Babe Ruth PSA EX+ 5.5, selling for $159,900. REA’s Spring Auction represented the introduction of this incredibly rare card to the hobby, as it was previously only known to be advertised on the instruction booklet of a popular baseball card game. This is one of only two examples known to exist, with the second set to be one of the headline items in REA’s Summer Catalog Auction in July.

The event also included a full 13-card PSA-graded set of Bond Bread Jackie Robinson cards, which combined to realize $381,300, led by a spectacular PSA EX-MT+ 6.5 example of his true rookie card - a circa 1947 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson Portrait - that sold for $56,580, a new record for the flagship card in this set. There were also two beautiful examples of Jackie Robinson’s iconic 1948 Leaf rookie card - a PSA EX-MT 6 and PSA VG-EX 4 (MBA Gold Diamond) - that both set new records for their respective grade, each selling for $83,025.

There were several fantastic unopened material results as well, with an incredible 1960 Topps unopened cello box with 16 Fourth Series (Mickey Mantle) packs fetching $227,550 and an extremely rare 1967 Topps unopened wax box finishing at $233,700. Additionally, a 1971 Topps Football First Series unopened cello box finished at $116,850 and a 2022 Bandai One Piece Romance Dawn OP-01 original Blue Bottom booster box case with 12 unopened boxes sold for $64,575, the top non-sport item in the event.

The event generated over $16 million in sales. Some of the other notable results from this blockbuster event included:
