Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by PSA. Presented is an extraordinary T3 of Ty Cobb, one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series. This is an incredibly strong card for the assigned grade! Most T3s in similar grade (of any player), let alone examples of Ty Cobb, do not hold a candle to this card. This example is bright and clean, both front and back, with bold colors, no creases or wrinkles, and exceptional centering. Minor corner wear (mostly on the lower right), a few light spots of toning on the lower left border, and slightly out-of-registry image, account for the seemingly harsh assigned grade. We do not think that this would look out of place in an EX 5 holder, and it certainly presents as strong Excellent or better condition. The reverse is mainly clean and features the checklist for the first seventy-six cards in the set along with an advertisement at the bottom. T3s rarely survive without serious condition problems (ranging from major creases, stains, and rounded corners, to pinholes and glue stains relating to their former display). This is a stunning high-grade example of card #9 Ty Cobb from the classic Turkey Red set. Turkey Reds are considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. Cobb is not just the most valuable card in the set, it also one of the best known and popular of all Ty Cobb cards. This is a particularly impressive example of one of card collecting’s great classics, in an extremely desirable grade. Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open).
