Very attractive example of Jim Pendleton (Milwaukee Braves) from one of the rarest and most condition-sensitive of all 1950s Topps issues, the 1955 Topps Stamps test series. The 1955 Topps Stamps are among the rarest and most mysterious of all Topps issues. Identical in design to the regular Topps issue, these stamps have gummed backs and perforated edges. It is virtually certain that these stamps never saw public distribution, and were produced for internal use only, as a test design concept. All known examples from this unusual set, including this sample, can be traced back directly to the collection of legendary hobby pioneer Woody Gelman, who was also the art director (and archivist) for Topps. This example displays bold colors and is centered toward the top left. Encapsulated as "Authentic" by PSA due to evidence of album removal on the blank reverse, otherwise it remains in Excellent condition. One of only two examples ever reviewed by PSA! This is a rarely seen example of this significant rarity for the type or Topps collector.
