Graded POOR 10 by SGC. Extremely rare E107 Breisch-Williams series card featuring Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young of the Boston Americans. As pitcher of the 1903 Red Sox, and having just led them to victory in the first World Series, Young is one of the most significant players in the entire E107 set, and, of course, one of the greatest pitching legends of his era. 1903 marked Cy Young's fourteenth season in the Major Leagues. Despite his advancing age, he proved he was still one of the top hurlers in the game, finishing the year with a 28-9 record and 2.08 ERA. Few prewar card sets compare in rarity or significance to E107 Breisch-Williams. Issued in 1903, these distinctive cards represent one of the few sets of baseball cards to be issued during the years between the popular photographic cards of the 1880s (such as Old Judge) and the many tobacco- and caramel-card issues of the 1910 era, for which E107s can also be credited with establishing the general design. The rarity of the offered card cannot be overstated! This is only the third E107 Cy Young that we have ever handled in the past 21 years! This is a very pleasing example of one of the rarest, most impressive, and most important of all Young cards. Bright and crisp, with light corner wear, a flawless image, and a small chip of paper loss near the left border. There is evidence of album removal and light toning on the desirable advertising reverse. This is a striking example of one of Cy Young's rarest and most noteworthy cards, and would be a significant addition to any world-class E107, Hall of Fame, or prewar card collection.
