Magic Johnson and Michigan State defeated the University of Pennsylvania 101-67 while Larry Bird and Indiana State defeated DePaul 76-74. In the championship, that matched two of the greatest future stars in NBA history, Michigan State defeated Indiana State 75-64 to capture the national title.
