Impressive bronze statue of Baltimore Orioles Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson in a fielding pose. A plaque along the front of the wooden base reads "Brooks Robinson/'Human Vacuum Cleaner'/sculptor- Robert Hogan." The statue's pose pays homage to the miraculous play made by Robinson during Game 1 of the 1970 World Series when he speared a scorching ground ball off the bat of Lee May of the Cincinnati Reds. Robinson's figure is surrounded by 16 gloves, a nod to the legendary gloveman's career Gold Glove tally. The custom engraved plate reads off Robinson's laundry list of career highlights: "16 Gold Gloves 1960-1973/All-Star Game MVP 1966/World Series MVP 1970/18 All-Star Games/AL MVP 1964/Hall of Fame 1983/Roberto Clemente Award 1972." Signed boldly by Robinson in black Sharpie. The reverse of the plaque features the engraved name of the artist "Robert Hogan," the copyright year of "1998," and the limitation number "19/36." The bronze statue (12 x 20 x 8 inches) displays minimal handling wear. In Near Mint condition overall. Weight: 38.6 pounds. Retails on Hogan's website for $4,800. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
