Rare cabinet card picturing Hardy Richardson as a member of the Detroit Wolverines. The photograph, taken in a formal studio setting, captures Richardson in a full-length pose holding a bat in front of an ornate backdrop. Richardson's name, position, and team affiliation ("H. Richardson Second Base - Detroit Base Ball Club") are printed on the base of the mount, as is the name of the photographer, "Tomlinson - 236 Woodward Ave., Detroit." 1886 marked the first of Richardson's three seasons with Detroit and he was a key member of the club's 1887 World Championship team. A two-time National League home-run leader, Richardson was one the club's top hitters during his three-year tenure with Detroit. He finished his 14-year Major League career (1879-1892) with a .299 average, 73 home runs, and 828 RBI. The photo, which displays extraordinary clarity, has a small spot of paper loss on Richardson's chest. The mount (4.25 x 6.5 inches) has light soiling, moderate corner wear, and ink notations on the reverse. In Fair condition overall.
