Bank check dated November 13, 1953, signed in blue ink twice by the legendary Moe Berg, one of the most interesting figures in the history of baseball. Berg was a journeyman Major League catcher who played fifteen seasons between the years 1923 and 1939, but it is not his baseball career that has captured the imaginations of present-day historians. During his playing days, Berg was also working undercover as a spy for the U.S. government and later served in the OSS, the forerunner to today's CIA. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and certified the signatures "Authentic." The check, drawn on National Newark & Essex Banking Co. is made out to "Cash” in the amount of $75. Signed “Morris Berg” along the base and again on the reverse as an endorsement. The check (6-1/4 x 2-3/4 inches) has normal bank cancellation stamps and perforations as well as a vertical crease. In Very Good condition overall.
