Graded GOOD+ 2.5 by SGC (submitted by REA). Presented is a rare E107 Breisch-Williams sample card featuring Hall of Fame third baseman Jimmy Collins of the Boston Americans. We are very familiar with this particular card as this is the second time we have had the privilege of offering it. This card was presented as Lot 146 in REA's Spring 2019 auction and at the time it was part of a newly-discovered, original owner collection of thirty-seven E107s consigned to that sale. As third baseman and manager of the 1903 Red Sox, and having just led them to victory in the first World Series, Collins is one of the most significant players in the entire E107 set. Collins was the greatest third baseman of his era. He led his league's third basemen in putouts five times, assists four times, double plays twice, and still stands second all-time in career putouts at third base. Collins was player-manager of the Red Sox in the American League's first six seasons, leading Boston to a victory over Pittsburgh in the inaugural World Series in 1903, the same year this card was issued. Despite the modest SGC grade, this is a stunning card. Bright and crisp, with evenly rounded corners, and moderate creasing. The desirable advertising reverse is boldly printed. This is a very attractive example of this extremely important card with a far superior appearance than suggested by its SGC grade.
