Postwar Baseball Cards (1948-present)

Graded NM 7 by PSA. High-grade example of this significant condition rarity and one of Joe DiMaggio’s most popular cards. This is also DiMaggio's only postwar bubble-gum card issued during his playing days (he did not allow cards of himself to be printed by Topps or Bowman), giving this card an even greater significance. Considering the fragile cardboard used in the production of the 1948-1949 Leaf issue and the usually excessive wear the #1 card is subjected to, the grade of this card is even more impressive. The offered example is well centered with four strong corners and almost no traces of gum staining that so frequently affects 1948-1949 Leafs. The blue and red colors on the card display boldly while the background color, most commonly a slightly darker green, displays with a slightly yellow hue (colors on 1948 Leafs often vary from card to card, in some cases dramatically, due to normal production variances; this is part of the charm of the set). Clean, boldly printed reverse. This is a very attractive high-grade example of one of the key cards from the 1948-1949 Leaf set, one of DiMaggio's most important cards and one of the most significant and popular gum cards of the postwar era. Awarded an MBA Silver Diamond by Mike Baker Authenticated for high-end eye appeal. A corresponding MBA sticker is affixed to the front of the holder.
