Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Outstanding example of Southern Leaguer Shag Shaughnessy (Roanoke) with a desirable Old Mill advertising back. Shaughnessy has always been an extremely popular T206 and among the scarcest of the Southern Leaguers. Frank "Shag" Shaughnessy made it to the majors for just a few games in 1905 with Washington, and 1908 with the Athletics, but went on to have a great significance to the game off the field. In 1933, as General Manager of the International League's Montreal Royals, Shaughnessy introduced the concept of a play-off system to create more interest in postseason play. Known as "The Shaughnessy Plan," this format has had a tremendous impact on minor and Major League baseball. Shaugnessy went on to serve as President of the International League for twenty-five years (1936-1960). This well-centered card has bold colors, a crisp image, and strong corners with light touches of wear. The Old Mill advertising reverse is boldly printed. A superb Southern Leaguer example worthy of any high-quality T206 set or Southern Leaguer collection.
