Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA (submitted by REA). This is the only example graded at this level with just one higher. Extremely rare card of New York Yankees Hall of Fame slugger Babe Ruth from the 1921 Koester Bread set. This is only the second example we have offered in the past twenty years! The 1921 World Series between the Yankees and Giants was the first New York "subway series." The Koester Bread set was issued to commemorate the series, and features the players, managers, and coaches of each team. They were distributed in October 1921 by E. H. Koester, a New York bakery. Cards from this regional issue are virtually identical to blank-backed versions of the E121 American Caramel series cards but are printed on higher-quality, thicker stock. This card features Ruth in a full-length throwing pose. It is interesting to note that the young but already very celebrated Ruth is pictured on this card in a Boston uniform, though he is appropriately identified below as a member of the New York Americans. "Boston" (mostly covered by Ruth's throwing arm) can be seen across Ruth's chest upon close examination. Bright and crisp, with a bold image, minor wear to the corners, and very light foxing on the reverse. This is a spectacular example of a very infrequently encountered Babe Ruth card from this early 1920s regional issue. Opening Bid $10,000.
