Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rarely offered E120 American Caramel of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, one of the two key cards from this distinctive (and underrated) early 1920s caramel issue, which is of all the greater importance as the largest and most comprehensive set of the era. Cobb is featured in full uniform in a throwing pose. It is interesting to note that Cobb's name is misspelled as "Cob" on this card. In 1922 Cobb stepped up to the plate 526 times and batted an extraordinary .401, second only to George Sisler (.420 average). The offered card displays a crisp image and honest corner wear. A spot of paper loss along the right edge on the front and a spot of staining along the left edge on the reverse factor into the assigned grade. This is an attractive mid-grade example of Cobb from a classic 1920s set issued during one of his greatest hitting seasons. Opening Bid $1,000.
