Graded NM 7 by PSA. The legend of Joe Jackson is monumental in our hobby. Though he was one of the greatest players to ever take the field, his banishment from the game has made him even larger than life. The offered card was produced twenty years after Jackson and seven other "Black Sox" were banned from the game by Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis for throwing the 1919 World Series. Interestingly, the back of this card makes no mention of this; rather, it states that "he was traded to the White Sox in 1915 and was with them until he stopped playing after the 1920 season." Unfortunately for collectors, there are few vintage cards of Jackson. This 1940 Play Ball card offers one of the few and is particularly fascinating as it was issued when the memory of the scandal was still very fresh in the minds of baseball fans. This example has outstanding picture quality and strong corners. Clean reverse with bold black text. This is a beautiful high-grade example of this classic Jackson card. Opening Bid $2,000.
