Fleer issued four football sets during the early 1960s in an effort to compete with Topps' established efforts in the sport. The 1963 set consists of eighty-nine cards featuring AFL players and is highlighted by Hall of Fame rookie cards of Nick Buoniconti, Len Dawson, and Lance Alworth. The Fleer sets are far rarer than their Topps counterparts from the same era. The condition is 7% Nr/Mt, 60% Ex to Ex-Mt, 10% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 23% lesser (all due to small pen marks on the reverse). Keys: #6 Long RC (small pen marks on reverse, otherwise Ex+), 10 Buoniconti RC (tiny pen mark on reverse, otherwise Ex), 15 Maynard (Ex-Mt), 23 Gilchrist RC (Ex-Mt), 24 Kemp (Ex+), 36 Blanda (Ex-Mt), 47 Dawson RC (Vg+), 62 Otto (Nr/Mt), 64 Dougherty SP (Ex-Mt), 70 Lincoln RC (small pen marks on reverse, otherwise Ex+), 72 Alworth RC (Ex), and Checklist (Vg).
