Official American League baseball (Barnard) signed in black fountain pen by seventeen members of the 1930 New York Yankees, including Babe Ruth (sweet spot), Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Bill Dickey, Earle Combs, Herb Pennock, Charles Ruffing, Ben Chapman, Hank Johnson, Jimmie Reese, Dusty Cooke, George Pipgras, Lyn Lary, Lou McEvoy, Sam Byrd, and two others we could not identify. This is a particularly outstanding ball with extremely strong Ruth and Gehrig signatures. It is also new to the modern collecting world. This ball has been in our consignor's family for decades. Gehrig has added the inscription "To Brother/Most Sincerely/From" directly above his signature. The inscription on this ball is made out to our consignor's uncle. 1930 marked Bob Shawkey's one and only season as manager of the Yankees. Shawkey's short tenure interrupted the two longest managerial streaks in club history. Miller Huggins was manager of the Yankees from 1918 until his death in 1929 (his twelve seasons ties him with Casey Stengel and Joe Torre). Following Shawkey was Joe McCarthy, who spent a record sixteen seasons as manager of the "Bronx Bombers." The ball is lightly toned, with bold manufacturer stampings, and is in overall Excellent to Mint condition. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $5,000.
