Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, the Kellogg's cereal company was the only true competition for Topps in the baseball-card market. The 1971 issue, offered here, represents the second year that Kellogg's included baseball cards in cereal boxes, and is well known for its three-dimensional design. The 1971 set is by far the key year for a Kellogg's baseball collection, as this was the only year that collectors were not offered the opportunity to order a complete set directly from Kellogg's. The only way to have assembled a 1971 Kellogg's set was to buy countless boxes of cereal, which included only one card per box. These sets have always been of great interest to collectors as they offer affordable alternatives to standard-issue Topps cards of the many Hall of Famers and stars included in each set. An impressive nineteen Hall of Famers are featured throughout this set, including Tom Seaver, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, as well as the many other stars of the day. Each card, which measures 2-1/4 x 3-1/2 inches, is still sealed in its original paper wrapper as issued in boxes of Kellogg's cereal. Many of the wrappers display light toning along the edges. A complete set in unopened form is extremely rare! Also included are two 1972 Kellogg's cards featuring Clemente and Mays, still sealed in their original paper wrapper. Total: 77 cards in unopened wrappers (complete 75-card set of 1971 and two 1972). Opening Bid $300.
