This is one of dozens of high-grade complete sets available in this auction, each of which was painstakingly built by our consignor, who is featured in one of our Consignor Stories available here. Presented is an exceptionally attractive and unusually high-grade complete set of 1962 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all baseball-card sets, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. The 1962 Topps set has a well-deserved reputation for being the era's most condition-sensitive issue. The flush-to-the-border brown wood-grain design of the 1962 Topps set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is a stunning high-grade complete set of this classic issue, highlighted by Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, and Sandy Koufax. This particular set includes all fifteen significant variations (both variations for #22, 129, 132, 134, 147, 174, 176, 190, 192, 441, 458, 462, 516; and both Reniff variations for #139). It also includes eighteen green tint photo variations from the second series (#110-196): #110, 111, 120, 124, 125, 133, 134, 141, 151, 152, 161, 164, 170, 171, 172, 180, 187, and 191. This set consists of thirteen MINT 9s, thirty-nine NM-MT+ 8.5s, 571 NM-MT 8s, and three NM 7s. PSA Grading Composite: MINT 9 (13 cards): #49, 98, 114, 119, 126, 245, 251 Yankees Team, 395 Mays AS, 397, 466, 557, 560, and 563. NM-MT+ 8.5 (39 cards): #43, 92, 129/plain, 174/cap, 180/green, 208, 211, 246, 302, 327, 327, 333, 334, 335, 339, 358, 361, 367, 370, 376, 380, 384, 389, 392, 409, 423, 427, 434, 473, 475 Ford, 496, 515, 518, 521, 522, 546, 551, 552, 553, and 571. As suggested by the extraordinary grades and condition composite above, this is a crisp and stunning complete set of this classic early 1960s Topps issue with exceptional eye-appeal. This set obviously has tremendous break value. The total SMR value for the individual cards is $64,877, which in our experience is a fraction of what the recent sales prices add up to in total. Total: 630 cards (complete set of 598 plus 32 variations). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $10,000.
