Prewar Baseball - 1910s and 1920s Cards
Modestly graded example of the incomparable Babe Ruth from the E253 set issued by Oxford Confectionery of Oxford, Pennsylvania. Oxford Confectionery issued this unusual set in 1921, at the same time its larger competitors were also issuing baseball cards with caramel treats. Collectors have always appreciated the rarity and primitive charm of this distinctive candy issue, which is of all the more special note as it features photos that are unique to this set. Oxfords appear to have been regionally issued, as they are rarely found outside of the Pennsylvania area. Oxfords are printed on somewhat thin card stock that is particularly prone to wear. A complete twenty-card checklist appears on the reverse of each card. Graded FAIR 20 by SGC, the offered card displays moderate creasing and light staining. The reverse is boldly printed. A very presentable example from this rare caramel-card set. Opening Bid $10.
