Extremely rare and possibly unique 1921 Schapira Bros. Candy Babe Ruth partial box featuring two desirable early 1920s cards featuring New York Yankees Hall of Famer Babe Ruth, one of which features Ruth in a ready-to-field pose while the other is the signature portrait card from this very unusual and fascinating candy-box set devoted exclusively to Babe Ruth. This is the first such box we have ever seen, and we have only handled a handful of cards from this set in the last twenty years. Each card from the set measures 1-5/8 x 2-3/8 inches and features Ruth. The portrait card appeared on one side of every box; the other side featured one of five different full-length "action" cards with artwork that is clearly based on photos of Ruth. The portrait card is the only card in the set that identifies Ruth by name and provides instructions to "Send 250 of these pictures to Schapira Bros. Inc. E. 135th St. New York City" to "Get a Base Ball Autographed By Babe Ruth." There are few cards of Ruth dating from the 1920s. This is one of the most distinctive and interesting 1920s Ruth cards.
