Presented is a rare partial set of ninety-eight different 1914 E145 Cracker Jack cards (out of 144 in the set) highlighted by eleven Hall of Famers, including Eddie Collins, Eddie Plank, Joe Tinker, and Frank Baker. This group is part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby find of 1914 and 1915 Cracker Jack cards, saved by the family of the original owner who lived in the Southeast, all consigned to REA's Fall 2024 auction. The 1914 #144 series Cracker Jacks are far rarer than their 1915 counterparts, because the 1914 cards were not available by mail and could be obtained only one card per package in boxes of Cracker Jacks. Because of their method of issue, 1914 Cracker Jacks are also almost always found with various condition problems including caramel staining. Condition is 6% Vg-Ex or slightly better, 20% Gd to Vg, and 74% Pr to Fr (including some with missing pieces, one trimmed, one altered with tape, and nineteen with a "D. Sere" rubber stamp on the reverse). Keys: #1 Knabe (Fr), 2 Baker (Pr), 3 Tinker (Pr-Fr), 6 Plank (Pr), 7 Collins (Pr), 12 Mack (Pr), 14 Crawford (Pr), 35 Hooper (Fr), 60 Zeider (two pieces taped together from reverse), 61 Schalk (Pr), 69 McGraw (Pr), 73 Carey (Pr), and 75 Huggins (Pr). Missing the following forty-six cards for completion: #5, 8, 17 Bresnahan, 18 Evers, 19 Bender, 22 Wood, 23 Comiskey, 29, 30 Cobb, 32 Brown, 36 Walsh, 37 Alexander, 39 Gandil, 43 Marquard, 45, 46, 52 Wheat, 55, 57 Johnson, 65 Speaker, 66 Lajoie, 67, 68 Wagner, 70 Clarke, 77 Jennings, 86, 87, 88 Mathewson, 90, 92, 93 Pratt, 94 Cicotte, 99 Chance, 100, 103 Jackson, 106, 112, 113, 122 Bush, 123, 129, 132, 133 Rickey, 134 Marsans, 136 Maranville, and 140. All of the cards display with bright colors and crisp images. They are downgraded due to a variety of flaws common to the thin-stock Cracker Jack cards. With a few exceptions, this is a very presentable lower-grade collection of classic 1914 Cracker Jacks, representing a tremendous start to the completion of this extremely popular set. Total: 98 cards. Opening Bid $2,500.
