Original news photo capturing the 1928 World Champion New York Yankees after Game 3 of the "Fall Classic." Certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Featured in the photo are ten members of the Yankees, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Tony Lazzeri, each holding a bat with a single letter attached. Together the letters read "For Al Smith," endorsing the candidate's bid for the presidency in 1928. It is interesting to note that this image was used to produce the "Champions of Al Smith" campaign poster, an extremely desirable collectible in it's own right. Al Smith lost the election to Herbert Hoover but the Yankees had a better year, sweeping the Cardinals in the 1928 World Series in four games. An "International Newsreel" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the original paper news caption dated "10-8-28," a second date stamp ("Oct 8 1928"), and a few editorial notations. The photo (7-3/8 x 5-1/2 inches), which has been trimmed to the current dimensions, has light creasing, as well as six small tape stains on the reverse. In Very Good condition overall.
