San Diego Padres alternate jersey worn by Tony Gwynn during the 1997-1998 seasons. The jersey is accompanied by a COA signed by Tony's wife Alicia Gwynn. The blue knit jersey is lettered "Padres" across the front and features the number "19" on the reverse. "GWYNN" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All front letters are appliquéd in tricolor tackle twill (black/white/orange); all reverse numerals are appliquéd in orange on white tackle twill. All reverse letters are appliquéd in white tackle twill. The team's “Padre” mascot patch appears on the left sleeve. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic 50" label and a separate tag reading "100% Polyester." Gwynn has signed the jersey in black ink on the reverse numeral "1." Despite the absence of a year tag, the jersey can be dated to the 1997-1998 seasons based upon the design of the shirt, which was only used by the Padres during the years 1997-1998. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays light wear. One of the greatest hitters of the modern era, Gwynn's lifetime total of 3,141 hits ranks 21st all time, and his .338 career average has been topped by only 11 other modern-day players. Gwynn was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007, his first year of eligibility. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA (for the signature). Opening Bid $500.
