Presented is a 1951 World Series program, signed by Hall of Fame executive Bill Veeck in blue ink on the front cover. Veeck, who is best known today for signing Eddie Gaedel to a St. Louis Browns contract in 1951, was also instrumental in fostering integration in baseball. In 1947 he signed Larry Doby to a Cleveland Indians contract, making Doby the first African American player in American League history. Veeck retired from baseball in 1980 and died six years later. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991. The 1951 World Series was played between the New York Giants and New York Yankees and featured two rookie Hall of Famers: Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. The Yankees would win the series in six games to clinch their 14th championship in franchise history, the first of seven that Mantle would win during his career. The program is unscored and in Very Good condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $100.
