Presented is a near-complete set of 1971 Milk Duds cards consisting of sixty-eight different players (out of sixty-nine in a set), missing only Jim Perry for completion. Includes the following three duplicates: Pappas, G. Perry, and B. Robinson. Milk Duds, the popular chocolate candy, featured cards on the back panel of the boxes in 1971 that were designed to be hand-cut by youngsters. This collection consists of eleven cards in the ideal full-box form (Bahnsen, Bench, F. Howard, D. Johnson, McCovey, McNally, Menke, Merritt, Osteen, Pappas, and G. Perry), eight cards hand cut with the Milk Duds tab at the bottom, and fifty-two cards hand cut outside the borders or with portions of all four borders showing (except for Culp and McDowell). When found in complete-box form, this set is considered complete at seventy-two boxes, as three players were double-printed (Killebrew, B. Robinson, and Rose are each found with two different card numbers). Since the set numbering was located on the non-card portion of the box, a set that includes unnumbered hand-cut cards is usually considered to be complete at sixty-nine different subjects. The condition of the eleven full boxes (attaching more significance to the card portion of the boxes) is four Ex to Ex-Mt (including McCovey), three Vg to Vg-Ex (including Bench and Perry), and four Gd. The condition of the fifty-two hand cut cards (without reference to the neatness of the cuts) is 9% Nr/Mt, 23% Ex to Ex-Mt, 54% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 14% lesser. Keys: Hank Aaron (cut tapers slightly inside top border, otherwise Nr/Mt+), Ernie Banks (Ex+), Roberto Clemente (Ex-Mt), Willie Mays (Vg-Ex), and Pete Rose (Ex-Mt). An attractive mixed-grade near-complete set of this popular 1970s food issue. Total: 71 cards (near set of 68 plus three duplicates). Opening Bid $200.
