Original news photo capturing Babe Ruth during his final appearance at Yankee Stadium, June 13, 1948. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photo by PSA/DNA. The poignant image pictures a frail Ruth emerging from the Cleveland Indians (visitors) dugout holding a bat and tipping his cap to the fans for the last time. Ruth, who was gravely ill at the time (he died two months later), was one of the honored guests of the day, when the club retired his famed number "3" during a ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium. This was also the game at which Nat Fein took his famous photo of Ruth, titled The Babe Bows Out. A "United Press International Newspictures" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with paper remnants. The photo (10 x 8 inches) has light creasing. In Very Good condition overall. Opening Bid $500.
