Official Major League baseball (Selig) used during Johan Santana's no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 1, 2012, at Citi Field in New York. While a no-hitter ranks as one of the top achievements on any pitcher's resume, Santana's held even greater significance because it was the first no-hitter by a Mets pitcher in franchise history. Santana has inscribed the ball blue ink on a side panel: "Johan Santana - Mets 1st NoHitter - 6/1/12 - 8,020th Game." Further provenance is provided by MLB, which has authenticated the ball and affixed its silver hologram label on a side panel (EK048149). When verifying the number on the MLB website, we learn that this ball was used in the bottom of the fourth inning during Kirk Nieuwenhuis' at bat against Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, which resulted in a single. The ball has wear commensurate with its game use, including soiling on the autographed panel. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $300.
