Rare press pass issued for the first playoff game (best-of-three series) between the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants held at Ebbets Field on Monday, October 1, 1951. The Giants defeated the Dodgers 3-1 to take the first game of the playoff series, largely due to a strong performance from starter Jim Hearn and home runs from Bobby Thomson and Monte Irvin. Two days later during the third and final game, Bobby Thomson hit one of the most dramatic home runs in baseball history: a three-run game-winning shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Giants an improbable 5-4 win and the pennant. That famous home run, known today as "The Shot Heard Round The World," was further immortalized by Giants radio announcer Russ Hodges' unforgettable call, made famous by the repeated refrain, "The Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant ..." The pass, printed on heavy paper stock, has the year "Play-Off Game 1951," pass number ("390"), and facsimile signature of Walter O'Malley ("President"). There is a line on the front for the recipient to sign, which has been filled out. Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. The pass (4 x 2-1/2 inches) has a couple light creases, a few spots of surface wear on front, and minor toning. Opening Bid $200.
