Presented is one of the most extraordinary items that REA has ever had the privilege to offer: a substantial collection of twenty-five original artworks used in the production of Topps' 1953 series, all together in one impressive, framed display. What's even more appealing about this collection is the provenance! This collection originated from one of the founders of Topps and has been consigned to REA by his grandson. 1953 Topps is one of the most popular sets ever issued and is the only 1950s set issued by Topps that used original paintings. 1953 Topps original artworks are very rare. The last time we saw a significant group of these offered anywhere was in REA's April 2010 auction (a collection of 117 original 1953 Topps paintings personally consigned by Sy Berger - "The Father of the Bubble Gum Card"). This collection of artworks, which measure 3.25 x 4.75 inches each, are all in apparent Excellent condition. Matted and framed together to total dimensions of 26 x 34 inches (each artwork is mounted with tape along the edges of the reverse). The collection consists of artworks for the following cards: Top Row (L to R): #104 Yogi Berra (HOF), 269 Duane Pillette, 176 Don Hoak, 102 Connie Ryan, and Hoot Evers (unissued card). Second Row: #210 Bob Cerv, 161 Vern Bickford, 20 Hank Thompson, 149 Dom DiMaggio, and 87 Ed Lopat. Third Row: #78 Red Schoendienst (HOF), 259 Roy McMillan, 273 Harvey Haddix, 125 Dick Williams (HOF), and 254 Preacher Roe. Fourth Row: #250 Bob Wilson, 83 Howie Pollet, 111 Hank Sauer, 114 Phil Rizzuto (HOF), and 229 Rocky Krsnich. Bottom Row: #75 Mike Garcia, 2 Luke Easter, 109 Al Dark, 231 Solly Hemus, and 156 Jim Rivera. This is the largest collection of artworks from this series that we are aware of ever being offered as one lot. An outstanding opportunity to acquire a significant collection of original artwork from this very popular 1950s Topps baseball set. Total: 25 artworks. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $25,000.
