Presented is a mostly high-grade complete run of the fifteen original sticker series of mid-1980s Topps Garbage Pail Kids. Clearly a parody of Coleco's popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls (which ultimately led to a trademark infringement lawsuit), Topps Garbage Pail Kids cards were the brainchild of Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman (of Maus graphic novel fame), who was also the main creator of Topps Wacky Packages. Each sticker features a humorously drawn cartoon kid with a rhyming, alliterative, or word play nickname. Topps Garbage Pail Kids stickers were an instant hit with youngsters, with many schools banning them because of their edgy content and the distractions they were causing. The collection consists of the following: 1) 1985 Topps Series 1 Complete Master Set (88 stickers): Condition is 48% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint) and 52% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few lesser and a couple with a slight miscut). Keys: #1a Nasty Nick (Nr/Mt), 8a Adam Bomb (Ex-Mt due to centering, "Cheater's License" back), 8a Adam Bomb (Ex-Mt due to centering, "Checklist" back), 8b Blasted Billy (Ex-Mt, "Cheater's License" back), and 8b Blasted Billy (Nr/Mt-Mt, "Checklist" back). 2) 1985 Topps Series 2 Complete Set (84 stickers) Plus Two Back Variations and Two Duplicates: Condition is 52% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint) and 48% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few lesser). Key: #46a Rappin' Ron (Nr/Mt). Includes back variations of #42a and 42b, and duplicates of 45a and 45b. 3-15) 1985-1987 Topps Series 3 through Series 15 Complete Sets (1,074 stickers plus 56 additional back variations and four duplicates): 70% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint) and 30% Ex to Ex-Mt (mostly Ex-Mt and including 2% lesser). Includes the following four duplicates: #132a, 132b, 161a, and 161b. The fifty-six additional back variations are from Series 3 (6), Series 5 (8), Series 7 (4), Series 8 (4), Series 10 (4), Series 12 (6), Series 13 (8), Series 14 (8), and Series 15 (8). This is a superb complete set run of overall high-grade stickers from these popular 1980s nonsport sets. Total: 1,310 stickers. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $500.
