Original news photograph featuring legendary heavyweight boxing champion John L. Sullivan, circa 1910s. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. The formal studio photograph pictures Sullivan in formal attire. A number of "Underwood & Underwood" credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with Sullivan's name. John L. Sullivan is generally regarded as the first undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing history, having gained the unofficial title in 1882 after defeating Paddy Ryan. Sullivan successfully defended his title for ten years before losing by knockout in the twenty-first round to Jim Corbett. The photo (6 x 8 inches) has paper loss along the right border and light creases. Sullivan's name is etched along the base of the photo. In Good condition overall. Opening Bid $200.
