Chicago Cubs ticket stub issued for Game 1 of the 1929 World Series against the Philadelphia Athletics held at Wrigley Field on October 8th. Graded VG 3 by PSA. In one of the most surprising moves in World Series history, A's manager Connie Mack passed over both of his twenty-game winners, George Earnshaw and Lefty Grove, to start Game 1 of the World Series. Instead, Mack chose journeyman pitcher Howard Ehmke, who had appeared in only 11 games with the A's that season. Ehmke proved Mack a genius when he struck out a then-record 13 batters en route to a 3-1, complete-game win. Philadelphia went on to make short work of the Cubs, winning the Series in five games. The ticket stub (2.25 x 4.25 inches) has a crease on the upper-left corner. Opening Bid $100.
