Presented is a substantial collection of four near-complete and complete Hostess Baseball sets (plus one duplicate) consisting of 599 cards in total. From 1975 to 1979, Hostess issued these landmark sets of 150 cards on the bottom of boxes of Hostess snack-cake products, with one three-card panel appearing on the bottom of each box. The set was sensationally successful, and collectors all over the country were seen stocking up on Hostess products. This set collection (except for one complete panel) consists of individually hand-cut cards. The grades assigned in the condition composite below are without respect to the neatness of cutting (some might only qualify for "Authentic" if submitted for professional grading). This collection consists of the following: 1) 1976 Hostess Complete Set (150): 60% Nr/Mt or better and 40% lesser (ranging from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt, with a couple lesser). Keys: #11 Yount (Ex-Mt), 66 Rose (Nr/Mt+), 79 Ryan (lightly printed reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), 94 Aaron (Vg-Ex+), 114 Brett (Vg-Ex), and 137 Eckersley RC (Ex). 2) 1977 Hostess Near-Complete Set (148/150) Plus One Duplicate: 35% Nr/Mt or better, 24% Ex to Ex-Mt, 30% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 11% lesser (including one altered with tape). Keys: #8 Rose (Gd-Vg), two 36 Brett (Ex-Mt and Gd+), and 81 Ryan (Vg). Missing just two cards (#34 Yount and 35 Garvey) for completion. 3) 1978 Hostess Complete Set (150) Including One Complete Panel: 60% Nr/Mt or better, 30% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 10% Vg to Vg-Ex. All cards are cut slightly inside the dotted lines. Keys: 27 Brett (Ex), 31 Murray RC/32/33 (Vg), 83 Ryan (miscut back centering, otherwise Nr/Mt), 113 Schmidt (SGC NM/MT+ 92), and 128 Rose (Nr/Mt+). 4) 1979 Hostess Complete Set (150): 40% Nr/Mt or better, 40% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 20% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple Gd). Keys: #68 Brett (Nr/Mt), 101 Ryan (Vg), 102 Smith RC (100/0 back centering, otherwise Nr/Mt+), 115 Murray (Ex+), and 144 Rose (Vg-Ex). This is a very attractive and sizable collection of these unusual, scarce, and underrated Hostess package-design cards. Total: 599 cards.
