Produced by the Wrestling News magazine, the 1982 Wrestling All Stars "Series A" offers the first standard trading cards of legends like Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair. The only way these sets could be purchased at the time of issue was as full, cellophane-wrapped sets via mail order through an ad in the Wrestling News or Wrestling Revue magazines for $5. Estimates for production are that less than 2,000 sets were produced. Many collectors compare this set to the 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball set as a landmark set with the first cards of many legends and superstars, including what most collectors consider to be Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair rookie cards! This set is very condition sensitive due to the color borders and the fact that most sets were sold tightly wrapped in cellophane. This is an extraordinary high-grade complete set! Each card has been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (submitted by REA). PSA Grading Composite: NM-MT 8 (2 cards): #6 and 32. NM 7 (7 cards): #2 Hulk Hogan, 4 DiBiase, 5, 9 Funk Jr., 12, 31, and 35. EX-MT 6 (27 cards): #1 Andre The Giant, 3, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 Sammartino, 14 Morales, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 Brody, 21 Fabulous Moolah, 22 McDaniel, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 Flair, 28 Putski, 29 Murdoch, 30, 33, 34, and 36. For generations of fans who grew up watching these innocent but thrilling spectacles on late Saturday night and early Sunday morning TV, these card sets will evoke strong memories. This set harkens back to a simpler age before blaring music, pyrotechnics, and catch phrases, when wrestling was a guilty pleasure, when these pioneers of athletics and entertainment broke new ground. Total: 36 cards. Opening Bid $2,000.
