On October 7, 1961, noteworthy star Dummy Hoy threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the third game of the World Series at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Offered here is that very ball. The official National League baseball (Giles) is neatly lettered "First Ball Thrown By Dummy Hoy" in blue ink on a side panel. The date and results of the game are lettered "Sat./Oct. 7, 61/World Series/Yanks - 3/Reds - 2" on the adjacent panel. The ball comes with a one-page typed-signed letter of provenance from the wife of the Reds' publicity director, attesting to its authenticity. The accompanying signed letter she composed in 2003 detailing the history of the ball. (Please note the date, game, and results she listed on the letter are inaccurate.) In full: In 1961, my husband, Hank Zureick, was publicity director for the Reds and was in charge of pre-game ceremonies also. Dummy Hoy threw the ceremonial 1st pitch of the 4th game of the World Series (Reds vs. Yankees) on 10/8/61 with the inscribed ONL Giles ball. Whitey Ford broke Babe Ruth's record for consecutive scoreless innings in the World Series and the Yankees won. After the game was over, my husband kept the ball. The ball has very light scuffing and is in Excellent condition. Opening Bid $300.
