For reasons unknown, Jackie Robinson store-model gloves are scarce. Perhaps the rarest of such gloves is the offered circa 1950s J. C. Higgins model. This is the first example we have ever offered. The right-handed fielder's glove has Robinson's facsimile signature stamped in the palm. The J. C. Higgins logo and model number "1607," appear below the signature. The stamping on the side of the glove reads "Streamlined/Kurv-Form/Fingers/Pat. No. 2231204." J. C. Higgins was the brand name for practically all the sporting goods products sold by Sears from 1908 to 1961. Like most Sears products, the baseball equipment sold by the company was supplied by other manufacturers, including Wilson. The glove is in remarkable condition given its age. Light use is evident, but the leather is soft and supple, and all the lacing appears to be original. An outstanding example of this rare relic. Opening Bid $500.
