Complete 100-card set of 1956 Adventure Gum, including the key rare card #86 Max Schmeling. This unusual and scarce issue includes a wide variety of sport and nonsport subjects, with a particular focus on famous boxing champions. The key card in the set, the controversial #86 Max Schmeling, has always been rumored to be pulled from the set early in distribution due to the swastika that appears in the background. Though this story has never been confirmed, Schmeling is the only rare card in the set, and most sets are offered without the Schmeling card, suggesting that it is true. Condition is 55% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint), 23% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 12% Vg to Vg-Ex. Twenty-six cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (24) and PSA (2). Keys: #32 Johnson (NM/MT 88), 34 Dempsey (NM/MT 88), 41 Louis (NM/MT 88), 44 Marciano (PSA NM-MT 8), 55 Agganis (NM 84), 76 Sullivan (NM 84), 78 Fitzsimmons (EX/NM 80), and 86 Schmeling (PSA NM 7). Additional SGC-graded cards: NM/MT+ 92 (3 cards): #43, 77, and 79. NM/MT 88 (5 cards): #16, 57, 63, 69, and 80. NM+ 86 (1 card): #89. NM 84 (6 cards): #11, 22, 23, 31, 42, and 88. EX+ 70 (1 card): #87. EX 60 (2 cards): #33 and 92. This complete set is obviously composed of uncirculated cards, fresh from vending. Many years ago a quantity of Adventure Gum vending surfaced. Most extremely high-grade examples and complete sets of this issue originate from this find. This is an extremely crisp high-grade complete set of this unusual issue from the 1950s, highlighted by the extremely rare Max Schmeling card. Total: 100 cards.
