Exceedingly rare 1950s milk carton featuring Mickey Mantle. This half-gallon milk carton, produced by the Mid-West Creamery Co. of Ponca City, Oklahoma, pictures Mantle in uniform on two side panels, above which appears the simple printed endorsement "Mickey Mantle’s Favorite Milk." A copyright notice on the container is dated 1957. This is without a doubt one of the rarest Mickey Mantle collectibles in the entire collecting world. In fact, we have offered only three examples in the past 20 years (of which one was a chocolate-milk carton). Its rarity is certainly understandable given the nature of the product. It is hard to imagine anyone saving a milk carton at all, even one with Mickey Mantle's image. That this carton remains in its complete, original state is even more amazing. The carton (3.75 x 3.75 x 10 inches) shows general wear, including a staple to the top flap (small tear as well), moderate toning, scattered surface abrasions, and several color touch-ups to the red areas on the carton. In Fair condition overall. This is a very pleasing example of this rarity that would be a significant addition to any advanced Mickey Mantle collection. Reserve $500.
