Offered are two items related to Hall of Famer Tris Speaker. 1) Unique oversized painting on canvas. The facial study pictures Speaker in his Cleveland uniform with cap. The painting (37 x 38, visible dimensions) has a number of minor surface abrasions, which do not detract from the striking visual appeal. Framed to total dimensions of 39 x 40 inches. 2) One-page typewritten letter, dated January 31, 1938, signed by Speaker. In his letter, written on his personal letterhead, Speaker writes a Mr. R. P. Stewart of the Lee Motor Company regarding a number of photographs: In full: "Dear Mr. Stewart: In answer to your letter of January 18th, I regret I was unable to obtain the photos you requested. I inquired at the various photographers and newspapers and was unable to get any information. Kindest personal regards, Sincerely, Tris Speaker." The letter (7-1/8 x 8-1/2 inches) has two horizontal mailing folds, as well as light staining and six spots of album removal on the reverse. In Very Good condition overall.
