The signatures are scripted in either blue or black fountain pen. The checks are made out to (and endorsed on the reverse by) the following players (breakdown by year): 1917 (3): Aldridge (7/31), Elliott (7/31), and Williams (7/31). 1918 (8): Walker (4/30), Elliott (4/30), Wortman (4/30), Zeider (5/15), Douglas (8/15), Flack (8/15), Walker (8/15), and Knabe (8/16). 1919 (25): Weaver (3/19), Kilduff (3/29), Tyler (5/15), Vaughn (5/31), Merkle (6/14), Turner (6/28), Daly (6/30), Carter (6/30), Barber (6/30), Lear (6/30), Mann (6/30), Pick (6/30), Hollocher (6/30), Hendrix (6/30), Killefer (6/30), Deal (7/15), Bailey (7/31), Newkirk (8/5), Magee (8/15), Paskart (8/15, Friberg (8/15), Herzog (8/15), McCabe (8/15), Farrell (8/15), and Martin (10/6). 1920 (12): Turner (4/15), Marriot (4/16), Gaw (5/12), Weafer (5/15), Robertson (7/15), Cheeves (9/15), Twombly (9/15), Jaeger (9/15), Clarke (9/18), Terry (9/30), Leathers (10/2), and Jones (10/2). The checks (8.25 x 3.75 inches) all display normal bank cancellation stamps and holes. Flaws included but not limited to: edge tears, folds, and creases. In Good to Very Good condition overall. This lot originates from the extraordinary collection of a longtime Chicago Cubs executive, Eldred "Salty" Saltwell, which is consigned to this auction by his family. The collection, which includes a remarkable array of contracts, checks, and other related documents and mementos, will be presented over a series of auctions and will offer publicly for the first time many significant items spanning decades of Chicago baseball. Total: 48 checks. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000.
