Royalty check to Willie Mays from the Bowman Gum Co. for his image and likeness in the 1951 Bowman baseball card set, endorsed by Mays on the reverse. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and certified the signature as "Authentic." Not only is this one of the earliest Mays' signatures we have offered in the past 20 plus years, but this royalty check also has direct ties to his rookie card, one of the iconic cards in the hobby. The check, dated August 17, 1951, and drawn on the Central-Penn National Bank of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is made out to “Willie Mays” in the amount of $10. Signed by a pair of Bowman executives along the base. Mays has signed the check on the reverse in black fountain pen. Also endorsed by the Giants equipment manager, “Eddie Logan." The check (7.5 x 3.5 inches) displays a tear along the left edge, blue ink notations along the top edge, and normal bank cancellation stamps and holes. In Fair condition overall. Reserve $500.
