Josh Gibson and Satchell Paige will always be two of the most legendary names of Negro League baseball, and their accomplishments plant them firmly at or near the top of all Hall of Famers. Gibson was a prodigious power, heralded as the "Black Babe Ruth," and is believed to have hit more home runs in his career than any other player in history. Paige, who enjoyed time in the Major Leagues following almost two decades in the Negro Leagues, was a rare talent acknowledged contemporaneously as one of the best to ever play the game. Their presence on the offered dual-signed baseball is nothing short of remarkable. Both Gibson and Paige have signed this circa 1940s baseball, creating an extraordinary rarity. Very few Josh Gibson signatures exist in any form on any medium. (He died in 1947 at age 35, making his signature among the rarest of all Hall of Famers.) Vintage signed Paige signatures are scarce in their own right. The very fact that Gibson’s signature is on the ball at all, let alone with Paige’s, and the fact that both immortals have added significant notations identifying their respective teams (“Kansas City Monarchs” for Paige, “Homestead Grays” for Gibson), make this one of the most extraordinary signed baseballs in the collecting world. This is the only example we have ever handled, and we have heard of the existence of only one other Paige-Gibson ball. When it comes to extreme rarities, condition is often a passing afterthought, and that holds true with the offered example, which presents well save for an abrasion affecting the beginning of Gibson's name. The signatures and inscriptions are boldly placed on the ball, grading "7" to "9" in our opinion. It remains an ideal example of one of the most desirable double-signed baseballs that could possibly exist. A PSA/DNA sticker is affixed to a side panel. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $5,000.
